Green online shopping is the way forward. And, for the companies performing well in this ethically-minded field, there’s a chance to achieve national recognition.
The OLGAs are the Online Green Awards, and it’s down to the public to decide who wins. With big name sponsors, including MSN and Royal Mail, there will be valuable publicity at the prestigious award ceremony in Central London on July 24th 2008. The two categories are Best Large Online Retailer, and Best Small Online Retailer, with six ethical companies in each one. So which ethical retailers are the green hot favourites for an OLGA?
Online retailers in the Large Retailer category include big names such as E Bay, Marks and Spencer and Ocado (an online grocery delivery service). When you vote, you can see the current standings - at the moment ethically-minded Ocado is storming ahead with its carbon-friendly approach to delivering fresh veggies to your kitchen.
In the small online-retailer division, there’s the likes of Kid-Eco, which has an ethical and sustainable approach to the packaging design field. It set up business in 2002, so is a relative newcomer in the online ethical shopping industry, but seems to have made a considerable impression in a fairly short time. Its range now includes ethical cardboard-based children’s toys and playhouses.
Tangkoko is also included in the small online retailer category. It sells quality, ethical furniture made in Indonesia from gorgeous sustainable woods. Its consistency in Indonesian ethical furniture retailing, and its green credentials, has seen it rewarded with an OLGA nomination. Other small retailers up for an OLGA include EcoCoffeeShop and Celtic Sheepskin.
